Continental made soft rubber products and solid tyres for the first bicycles and horse-drawn carriages. In 1892, the company started to make the first Pneumatic tyres in Germany.

  • Continental tyres were the first to have a tread pattern. This was for added grip, and it was already clear that the German tyre company were becoming very innovative.
  •  In 1905, not long after the addition of a tread pattern,. Continental invented the anti-skid tyre, which was a forerunner the studded snow tyres that we are familiar with today.
  • Continental tyres celebrated their 50th anniversary. They were to be the first German tyre company to add textiles to the tyre product with the addition of cord casing onto the market. Linen was the material that was used before this new method. This discovery was now to be replaced with a more workable cord-fibre fabric. At the same time, they started to make large pneumatic-fit trucks.
  •  In 1926, carbon black was to be introduced into the tyres compound. This would give the tyres more strength and make them last longer. Once again, Continental were a leader in innovation and strove to make a better product. Continental Tyres Ten Reasons
  • Had already been involved in early motorsport events. In the mid-1930, racing tyres were fitted to Auto-Union and Mercedes racing cars with four straight wins in the German Grand Prix.
  • They also were beating numerous speed records. Their tyres were proving to be of exceptional quality even in the early years.
  • The war years saw very little movement from Continental production. But in 1945, production resumed after permission from the British government. In 1955, Continental started producing the “tubeless tyres” that would be fitted to most cars.
  • Bringing things more up-to-date. 1979 would see Continental buying American tyre company Uniroyal. Thus, gave Continental a much larger base in Europe, of course, including the Uniroyal tyre buyout. This would be the start of the German tyre maker. Therefore, it is becoming so common here in the UK.
  • The 1980s would see more acquisitions, with the purchase of General tyres in America and a cheap tyre brand from Portugal called Mabor tyres. Both Mabor and General were well-known brands here in the UK.
  •  Continental tyres then bought a large share of Czech tyre company Barum, another famous budget tyre brand, along with 50 tyre dealer outlets.
  • At this stage, they were well known all across Europe and not only here in the UK. They had amassed more than 2000 tyre retailers across 18 European countries and were now becoming contenders for the largest tyre company in the World, a feat that they later achieved.

Continental Tyres Ten Reasons . are no doubt the world’s biggest tyre innovators. They have put billions of Euros into tyre research and development.

Continental Tyres Dandelions: 2024

Continental Tyres: We made first Winter tyres using Dandelion

Believe it or not, my other interest in life other than being a garage owner has been my love of nature and keeping different animals as pets. One of my favourite pets to keep in the beginning was rabbits and guinea pigs.

These animals have always been a good type of animal . Continental Tyres Dandelions

to keep when starting out looking after pets. Some people think it is cruel to keep animals in small living quarters, but I am convinced that it set me on the road to becoming a sensible, caring person in later life and, as a businessman, passing good attributes onto my staff, to help create a good working environment.

To get back to the point, I used to walk a couple of miles each morning to collect greens to feed my animals with. One of their favourite greens was the humble dandelion.

The thing that many people will notice . Continental Tyres Dandelions

The thing about the dandelion is that when you pick them, they leech out a sticky white substance. I used to wonder if this liquid could ever have a beneficial use, in medicine or industry.
When I grew up and went into the tyre industry, I always wondered about the similarity between dandelion juice and the latex that was drawn from trees to manufacture rubber. It was also similar to a product that was used to self-seal tyres if they had a small puncture with, a white, sticky latex type substance.

I could not believe that now, in my later years. Continental Tyres has worked together with an organisation known as the “Fraunhofer Institute.”. To actually develop this by-product of nature. Latex from the dandelion plant.

As a result, into making tyres. Continental Tyres Dandelions

Thus  the very thing that has kept me and my family in a living all these years. The molecular structure of the humble dandelion is very similar to the latex. Which is grown for the tyre and rubber industry. Naturally, in vast forests in warmer parts of the world.

The plants that have been used are a variety of dandelion from Russia. Hence, it can be grown anywhere in the temperate regions of Europe.

They have been grown in vast quantities all around the Continental factories. Throughout continental Europe.

This is a great environmental achievement. Continental Tyres Dandelions

So and earlier this year (2014). Then the German tyre company was awarded an environmental and economic prize . Known as the “Green Tec Award” in the automobile category. Something that Continental Tyres is truly proud of.

The humble dandelion was always seen as a weed. hence, to many gardeners . But in recent times, it has been recognised as one of the earliest wild plants to flower. Providing nectar and pollen for early bees and butterflies.

It is now also used in flower schemes because of its early flowering. Besides, it was once hacked down as a weed. So it is now left in situ to flower. Therefore, this is a new development from Continental. I will put the dandelion up there with all the other important finds. In the search for a greener planet,. Continental tyres are to start building tyres using the dandelion latex

The research has been going on for a number of years now. Continental Tyres Dandelions

armed with a large acreage of Russian dandelion plants. Grown around the tyre factory. They decided to use the new product, now known as “Taraxagum,” in the manufacture of some experimental tyres.

The new material will be called “Taraxagum”

The tyres that are used are winter tyres because they already contain a large amount of natural rubber.

The winter tyre natural rubber has been completely replaced by the new marketing name teraxagum, and will be extensively tested this winter near Hanover in Germany and also in Sweden, where the temperature gets very low.

Dr. Andreas Topp, Head of Material and Process Development, says… “The development process of Taraxagum has been very promising so far and we are continuing the industrialization together with our partners. We are very confident.

Our current research results will be confirmed. Especially, through the tyre tests. So that they will meet the performance targets,”
In my opinion, Continental tyres have struck gold. Hence, with this new product,. It will also save billions of euros in transport costs.

Because the dandelions will be able to grow here in Europe .

Close to the tyre manufacturing plants. The new tyres will undergo many trials. Before they were released for sale. A time period of ten years has been mentioned.

Millions of British motorists, are guilty of driving while using mobile phones. Many authorities, including the government, are looking at technology to block drivers from using their phones.

CONTINENTAL TYRES-MOBILE PHONE EPIDEMIC

Continental Tyre Joins the Crusade Against Mobile Use While Driving.

Hello, everyone! Today, I’d like to talk about something serious and important to all of us who drive. You’ve already heard it a hundred times, but it bears repeating: using a mobile phone while driving is not only dangerous, but also foolish. Continental Tyre, the tyre industry’s powerhouse, is now supporting a campaign to prevent this deadly behaviour.

Why Continental Tyre is Stepping Up. CONTINENTAL TYRES-MOBILE PHONE EPIDEMIC

Continental Tyre, recognised for their high-quality tyres that keep us attached to the road, is now focusing on something above the tarmac: our safety. They’ve always been concerned with road safety, but this time they’re focusing on one of the most common, but sometimes missed, hazards: using a mobile phone while driving.

It’s a no-brainer. When you’re nattering on your phone or texting, you’re not entirely focused on the road. This fractured focus can lead to blunders, which can quickly escalate. We’re talking about severe accidents, injuries, or worse. Continental Tyre’s message is clear: you should not use your phone while driving.

The Campaign’s Specific Details

This is more than merely ordering drivers to put their phones down. The campaign is a legitimate, well-thought-out undertaking. It includes increasing awareness through advertisements and social media, but there is more to it. They also plan to work with schools, driving instructors, and community groups to get the message across to new drivers, who are frequently the most addicted to their phones.

Let’s not forget about the technology. Continental Tyre values innovation, and they are looking into technological ways to assist limit mobile phone use while driving. We’re talking about apps that limit phone functionality while driving, and even in-car technologies that can block cell signals—brilliant stuff!

The bigger picture. CONTINENTAL TYRES-MOBILE PHONE EPIDEMIC

What is particularly admirable about Continental Tyre’s campaign is that it is part of a bigger movement for safer roads. They’re not only selling tyres; they’re also selling the idea that we can all help to improve road safety. It’s a collaborative endeavour, and when major players like Continental participate, it sends a strong message.

A little of local flavour

Now, returning to the UK, let us not forget that we have some beautiful drives here, from the winding roads of the Lake District to the gorgeous routes of the Scottish Highlands. However, in order to fully enjoy these drives and keep our scenic roads safe, we must keep our eyes on the road rather than on our screens.

Wrapping It Up. CONTINENTAL TYRES-MOBILE PHONE EPIDEMIC

So, there you have it. Continental Tyre is stepping up to address mobile phone use while driving. It serves as a reminder to everyone to keep their phones out of reach while driving. Remember that it’s more than just avoiding a fine;

It’s about keeping yourself and others safe on the road. So, let us all support this campaign to make our roads safer, one less cell phone distraction at a time. Stay safe, drive wisely, and let’s maintain our roads as beautiful as they should be!

With drivers’ use of mobile phones acknowledged as endemic. For this reason, two-thirds of motorists believe the government should introduce technology. Therefore, to disable certain phone functions for the sake of safety, according to new research released today,.

It is not just taking calls. But a larger concern is drivers reading texts. Including the  checking of social media profiles. Hence, viewing emails is now more of a concern than taking or making  phone calls. Thus, this means that the drivers are not just speaking on their phones but taking their eyes off the road. Naturally when reading and sending texts.
