Continental Tyres Ten Reasons

Continental made soft rubber products and solid tyres for the first bicycles and horse-drawn carriages. In 1892, the company started to make the first Pneumatic tyres in Germany.

  • Continental tyres were the first to have a tread pattern. This was for added grip, and it was already clear that the German tyre company were becoming very innovative.
  •  In 1905, not long after the addition of a tread pattern,. Continental invented the anti-skid tyre, which was a forerunner the studded snow tyres that we are familiar with today.
  • Continental tyres celebrated their 50th anniversary. They were to be the first German tyre company to add textiles to the tyre product with the addition of cord casing onto the market. Linen was the material that was used before this new method. This discovery was now to be replaced with a more workable cord-fibre fabric. At the same time, they started to make large pneumatic-fit trucks.
  •  In 1926, carbon black was to be introduced into the tyres compound. This would give the tyres more strength and make them last longer. Once again, Continental were a leader in innovation and strove to make a better product. Continental Tyres Ten Reasons
  • Had already been involved in early motorsport events. In the mid-1930, racing tyres were fitted to Auto-Union and Mercedes racing cars with four straight wins in the German Grand Prix.
  • They also were beating numerous speed records. Their tyres were proving to be of exceptional quality even in the early years.
  • The war years saw very little movement from Continental production. But in 1945, production resumed after permission from the British government. In 1955, Continental started producing the “tubeless tyres” that would be fitted to most cars.
  • Bringing things more up-to-date. 1979 would see Continental buying American tyre company Uniroyal. Thus, gave Continental a much larger base in Europe, of course, including the Uniroyal tyre buyout. This would be the start of the German tyre maker. Therefore, it is becoming so common here in the UK.
  • The 1980s would see more acquisitions, with the purchase of General tyres in America and a cheap tyre brand from Portugal called Mabor tyres. Both Mabor and General were well-known brands here in the UK.
  •  Continental tyres then bought a large share of Czech tyre company Barum, another famous budget tyre brand, along with 50 tyre dealer outlets.
  • At this stage, they were well known all across Europe and not only here in the UK. They had amassed more than 2000 tyre retailers across 18 European countries and were now becoming contenders for the largest tyre company in the World, a feat that they later achieved.

Continental Tyres Ten Reasons . are no doubt the world’s biggest tyre innovators. They have put billions of Euros into tyre research and development.

The Conti CrossContact AT: A Historical and Contemporary Overview

Greetings, fellow lovers of automobiles! I’m delving into the intriguing history of the Conti CrossContact AT tire today—a tire that has advanced significantly since its creation. This tyre has a fascinating history that you should learn about, whether you’re an experienced driver or just want to enhance your car.

The Beginning: A Lowly Start- ContiCrossContact AT

Initially, the Conti CrossContact AT was marketed as a flexible choice for off-road and on-road experiences. German tyre company Continental, renowned for its high standards of quality and innovation, set out to design a tyre that could withstand the rough terrains and erratic British weather. And they did not let us down.

Early on, the CrossContact AT was commended for both its performance and robustness. It swiftly rose to popularity among people in need of a dependable tyre for their SUVs and 4x4s. The tread pattern was both aggressive and polished enough to provide a smooth off-road ride. However, there was always space for improvement.

Raising the Bar: Technology Developments

Technology progressed, and the CrossContact AT followed suit. Continental made a number of improvements to improve the performance of the tyre. The addition of a silica-based compound to the tread was one notable improvement. This prolonged the tyre’s life and increased grip in wet circumstances. This was a game-changer for those of us who drive in the fickle British weather.

There was also a revision of the tread pattern. Better grip was provided by the revised pattern on a variety of conditions, including slick tarmac and muddy terrain. Continental’s engineers didn’t stop there. They also concentrated on lowering road noise to improve the comfort of lengthy drives. Who wants to listen to tyres hum when you can enjoy your engine purring, after all?

The Modern Era: Where Practicality and Innovation Collide

In the present era, the Conti CrossContact AT serves as evidence of the significant advancements in tyre technology. Improved load capacity and increased sidewall protection are among the advantages of the most recent models. Because they are heavier and frequently used for towing, this makes them ideal for modern SUVs.

The versatility of the current CrossContact AT is one of its best qualities. These tyres offer a balanced performance whether you’re negotiating the urban jungles of London or the twisting lanes of the Yorkshire Dales. Blessedly, the strengthened sidewalls provide protection from punctures, ideal for those unforeseen potholes.

Furthermore, Continental has improved its environmental friendliness. Fuel consumption is decreased by the new CrossContact AT tyres’ reduced rolling resistance. Thus, you not only receive a sturdy and dependable tyre, but you also help to save the environment. A win-win situation!

A Hint of What’s to Come

Continental doesn’t take its success for granted. The company is always investigating and creating new technologies to improve the quality of their tires. We may anticipate more developments for the Conti CrossContact AT as electric cars become more popular and driving alternatives become more environmentally friendly.

For the time being, though, we can enjoy the unique combination of ingenuity, history, and usefulness that this tyre provides. It serves as a reminder that occasionally striving for excellence and continuous progress yields the best results.

Concluding

Thus, the Conti CrossContact AT has you covered whether you’re organising a road trip across the UK or simply need a trustworthy tyre for your everyday commute. Continental tyres are joining the tyre revolution,

Continental tyres has achieved this by developing more environmentally friendly tyre products. This can be done by improving the rolling resistance of the tyres.

This means the tyres will offer less friction resistance.Naturally, between the road and the tyres, this allows the tyre to go further in one turn. Thus using less fuel and, therefore, making the car more fuel efficient.
This is only one small part of the overall picture. Thus, from the car manufacturer’s point of view,.

Which have to reach severe reductions in their overall emissions reductions. Of course, both individual governments and various groups of countries set those.

Continental tyres use Green Chilli oils in their compounds. Continental Tyres low-rolling-resistance tyres

The tyres will be known as the Conti E Contact.Of course,  are now available for the SUV market. Continental tyres also use a vegetable oil made from a “green chilli” compound.

Which is the latest achievement in reduced rolling resistance and performance. Naturally, for excellent tyre handling, safety, and better braking,.

Yokohama adds Orange peel oil.

Different tyre makers achieve this goal in a variety of ways. Yokohama tyres from Japan have developed the use of the various oils.Specifically orange peel oil in the mix of their compounds to reduce the number of petrochemicals that are used.

This also reduces the tyres reliance on carbon-based chemicals and makes the product greener and more

environmentally friendly.
This new tyre is aimed at the very modern compact car market.  The AE-01 is constructed from a jaw-breaking 80% of renewable materials. Including the orange peel oil and a nano-blend of oils is a great achievement.

Continental tyres are still in the “Dandelion Latex” development story

Continental tyres, along with the giant Bridgestone tyre company. Are still hedging their bets.

On the future use of the dandelion plant to produce latex. With a similar molecular structure to rubber latex. But we are still a few years away from this being used and tested on tyres that are to be used by the public.

The tyre companies are investing millions of dollars in research and development, as they see the dandelion as a great benefit in the future.
Pellon Tyre and Auto-Centre offer car and van servicing and repairs for all makes of tyres.

Continental tyres do not like the term

all-season“. I too think that new terminology is required and is an old, stale tyre term.

The term of “all-season”, in my opinion, means neither one or another. It reminds me of poor quality and performance in any weather. The tyre was originally made for the motorists who did not want to change over from summer tyres to winter tyres.

It became a sort of half-way house,

if you get my drift. You will find that this is still the case today. In recent years, we have found that drivers are reverting to the real thing. Consequently, drivers are now buying winter tyres.

Also, companies such as Michelin, are bringing out a different winter/summer tyre combination, they call the  Cross/Climate. Continental tyres have also brought out the Continental Contact CT22. Different countries have different tyre requirements. Including Europe and the USA.

Testing Continental’s ExtremeContact DWS 06

The difference is in the north and south. The north being much colder and requiring winter tyres. The southern countries use mainly summer tyres. The different conditions, includes countries, like the UK.  In many parts of Europe, it’s the law for people to switch to winter tyres during the cold months or you’ll be fined.

The choice these days is fantastic. Tyre producers are bringing out new safer products all the time. There is a tyre out there to suit your driving conditions and pocket. If you are not sure, then call in to see your local independent tyre dealer.

Timing may be everything.

Certainly, in the Ultra High-Performance All-Season category, the timing was right for Continental when they launched the original Extreme Contact DWS. Six years later, it’s time for their next Ultra High-Performance All-Season tyre, the Extreme Contact DWS 06.

The Extreme Contact DWS06 is not available on the European tyre market. However, the ContiWinterContact™ TS 850 and the ContiWinterContact TS 830 are available to fit many car models.

Does this new design offer more than just a strong family resemblance?

Premium vs Budget Tyres Tyre Brands: What’s the Real Difference?

When it comes to tyres, the debate between economy and premium brands is a well-trodden path. It’s a decision every car owner faces, and while the allure of saving a few quid with economy tyres is tempting, the long-term benefits of premium tyres can’t be ignored. Let’s delve into the real differences and help you make an informed choice.

The Price Tag

Economy Tyres:
The most obvious advantage of economy tyres is their lower price. They’re an attractive option for anyone on a tight budget or for those who don’t drive often. The initial savings are significant, making it easier on the wallet upfront.

Premium Tyres:
On the flip side, premium tyres come with a higher price tag. Brands like Michelin, Continental, and Bridgestone invest heavily in research, development, and high-quality materials, which is reflected in the cost. However, this investment often pays off in the long run.

Performance and Safety-Premium vs Budget Tyres

Economy Tyres:
Economy tyres can get you from A to B, but they often lack the advanced technology and superior materials found in premium tyres. This can result in less optimal performance, especially in challenging conditions like wet or icy roads. The grip, braking distance, and handling might not be as reliable, which could compromise safety.

Premium Tyres:
Premium tyres excel in performance and safety. They are engineered to provide excellent grip, shorter braking distances, and superior handling, regardless of weather conditions. These tyres often incorporate the latest technology, ensuring optimal performance. For instance, if you’re navigating the unpredictable weather of Halifax, a premium tyre’s advanced tread design and superior rubber compounds can make a world of difference.

Durability and Longevity- Premium vs Budget Tyres

Economy Tyres:
While cheaper upfront, economy tyres may wear out faster. The materials used and the construction quality often mean a shorter lifespan, leading to more frequent replacements. Over time, the cost of continually replacing economy tyres can add up.

Premium Tyres:
Premium tyres are built to last. Their superior construction and high-quality materials mean they can handle more miles and harsher conditions without wearing out quickly. This durability translates into fewer replacements and potentially lower costs over the long term.

Fuel Efficiency

Economy Tyres:
Economy tyres might save you money initially, but they can cost you at the pump. They often have higher rolling resistance, which means your engine has to work harder, using more fuel.

Premium Tyres:
Many premium tyres are designed with fuel efficiency in mind. Lower rolling resistance means your car uses less fuel, which is better for both your wallet and the environment. This can be a significant advantage, especially with the ever-fluctuating fuel prices.

Comfort and Noise

Economy Tyres:
Economy tyres tend to be noisier and provide a less comfortable ride. The design and materials might not absorb road noise and vibrations as well, leading to a bumpier and noisier journey.

Premium Tyres:
Premium tyres are often designed to enhance ride comfort and reduce noise. The advanced engineering and superior materials help absorb road imperfections and minimize noise, providing a smoother and quieter ride. This can make a big difference on longer journeys or daily commutes through our lovely, but sometimes rough, Halifax roads.

Environmental Impact

Economy Tyres:
The production of economy tyres might not always prioritize environmental concerns. The shorter lifespan also means more frequent disposal, contributing to waste.

Premium Tyres:
Many premium tyre brands are committed to sustainability. They invest in eco-friendly materials and production methods. The longer lifespan also means fewer tyres end up in landfills, reducing environmental impact.

Final Thoughts

Choosing between economy and premium tyres boils down to your priorities and driving habits. If you’re looking for short-term savings and don’t drive much, economy tyres might suffice. However, if you value performance, safety, durability, and comfort—and you drive frequently—investing in premium tyres is likely the better choice.

In the end, tyres are the only part of your vehicle that makes contact with the road. They play a crucial role in your safety and driving experience. So, while it might be tempting to go for the cheaper option, consider the long-term benefits and peace of mind that come with premium tyres. After all, you get what you pay for.

Whether you’re navigating the busy streets of Halifax or embarking on longer journeys, the right tyres can make all the difference. Drive safe, and choose wisely!

In fact, it is true what they say,

“they look similar,” but until you get them onto your car,. You pay your money but you do not know how they are going to perform out on the road. This is an excellent video to help inform you. it shows the difference between cheap tyres and more expensive tyres.

Watch this wet braking test

Continental Sport Contact 6

Continental Sport Contact 6

So, this tyre was designed for sports and high-performance vehicles. A black chilli compound was used ! Of course, maximum grip in all directions enables a supreme driving experience.

To enhance the power and performance of the new Contact 6 tyres. Then the guys in the laboratory at Continental made further developments. Importantly, with the “Black Chilli” tread compound. In the new Continental Sport Contact 6,. Thus, there are two main things. Which ensure maximum road holding when the tyre is pushed to its limits.

The new type of tyre is a rubber compound.

is so designed as to bind with the surface of the road. At the same time, the tyre footprint generates chemical reactions. Subsequently, the tyre compound bonds with the road surface. Which ensures high adhesion. Acting like small suction pads due to the behaviour of individual atoms at the nanosomic level.

All this technology gives the Sport Contact 6 fantastic grip on the road-surface.

This gives grip during cornering, braking, and fast acceleration, both on dry and wet roads. The tyre’s top speed has been established at 220 MPH, meaning that the new tyre has to cope with massive structural pressures and forces due to forces such as centrifugal force.

Strong manufacturing and construction materials, of course, establish this. These materials are created with new materials, such as “Aralon 350,” which is specially developed for the Continental Sport Contact 6.

Using the “Aralon 350” material. Continental Sport Contact 6

which, as I said, was especially for the  Sport Contact 6, Continental uses a synthetic fibre developed by two yarns made from strong aramid and closely interwoven with a yarn of flexible nylon.

The yarn is then impregnated with rubber into belt strips. This fibre is placed under the tread as a joint-less cap ply. This structure is extremely strong and acts like an additional steel belt. So, it offers controlled behaviour even at maximum speeds.
